Through the Global Giving orgnanization, I will be taking part in a spiritual journey to Zimbabwe later this year. Our mission is to build housing along with a community Ashram center for spiritual practice in one of the rural and poverty-stricken parts of the country.

Why Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe is continuing to plummet deeper into complex humanitarian issues. The ongoing and rapid economic decline, high inflation rate, increased poverty levels, continual poor agricultural production, the effects of HIV/AIDS, policy constraints, limited donor support for development programmes, and depleted capacity in the social services sectors have continued to severely compromise the well-being and livelihood of thousands of children and their caregivers throughout the country.

Additionally, according to the estimates by the United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy for Human Settlement issues in Zimbabwe, 'Operation Murambatsvina' ('Restore Order') - launched by the government of Zimbabwe in 2005 has resulted in an estimated 700,000 people losing their homes and/or livelihoods. To date, thousands of people are still living in the open or in the makeshift temporary shelters leaving children at risk of exposure to pneumonia and other health hazards particularly during the winter season with temperatures dropping to near-zero at night.
